Abstract
The article deals with the analysis of the epithets-substantives in the poetical language of T. Shevchenko. In such epithets characteristics are expressed implicitly rather then explicitly. The substantival adjective (participle) remains the sign carrier, so in poetic texts it can be an epithet. Using similar epithets, the poet pays attention to personal particularities of images and avoids tautology in the text.
