Образ Петра Даміані в науковому доробку професора Андрія Сергійовича Вязигіна

Abstract

Андрій Сергійович Вязигін (1867–1919 роки) – історик-медієвіст, професор Харківського університету. Характерною рисою А.С. Вязигіна як дослідника було переважання в його творчості церковно-історичної тематики. У зв’язку із цим головним предметом дослідницької роботи вченого стала історія церковно-суспільних перетворень в XI столітті в Західній церкві. У своїх наукових розвідках професор А.С. Вязигін критично сприйняв спрощений поділ церковної історії на «занепад» і «відродження», показав, що реформи – це результат внутрішніх процесів, а не лише авторитарного втручання зверху. У своїй роботі «Петро Даміані та церковно-суспільні перетворення XI століття» (1895 рік) учений представив докладний аналіз ролі Петра Даміані у процесі реформування церкви XI століття. Ця праця була заснована на пробній лекції, прочитаній 10 листопада 1894 року, і опублікована в «Записках Харківського університету». Цікавим видається той факт, що професор А.С. Вязигін одним із перших у вітчизняній науці ввів постать Петра Даміані в науковий обіг, показав його не просто як теолога та ченця, а як громадського діяча, залученого у процеси реформ. Головним завданням медієвіста було розкриття діяльності Петра Даміані як представника поміркованого спрямування церковних реформ XI століття. А.С. Вязигін зазначає, що П. Даміані прагнув морального оновлення духовенства, виступав проти радикальних методів реформаторів. П. Даміані вважав за краще м’які заходи, спрямовані на покращення дисципліни та моралі в церковному середовищі. Зазначена стаття є скромною спробою автора сказати своє слово щодо названої діяльності А.С. Вязигіна. Також у статті критично розкрита реформаторська діяльність П. Даміані, показано, що його ідеї справді сприяли зміцненню дисципліни та духовної чистоти. Однак його радикальні методи та крайній аскетизм є дуже полемічними та спричиняють дискусії серед дослідників.Andrii Sergiiovych Viazyhin (1867–1919) was a historian and medievalist, professor at Kharkiv University. A characteristic feature of A.S. Vyazyhin as a researcher was the predominance of church and historical themes in his work. In this regard the main subject of his research work was the history of church and social transformations in the eleventh century in the Western Church. In own research Professor A.S. Vyazygin critically perceived the simplistic division of church history into “decline” and “revival”, showing that reforms are the result of internal processes, not just authoritarian intervention from above. In his work “Peter Damiani and the Church and Social Transformations of the Eleventh Century” (1895) the scholar presented a detailed analysis of Peter Damiani’s role in the process of reforming the church in the eleventh century. This work was based on a trial lecture, wchich delivered on 10 November 1894 and published in the Notes of Kharkiv University. It is interesting to note that Professor A.S. Vyazyhin was one of the first in the national science to introduce the figure of Petro Damiani into scientific circulation, showing him not just as a theologian and monk, but as a public figure who involved in the reform processes. The main task of the medievalist was to reveal the activities of Peter Damiani as a representative of the moderate trend of church reforms of the eleventh century. A.S. Vyazyhin notes that Damiani sought the moral renewal of the clergy, opposing the radical methods of the reformers. Damiani preferred soft measures aimed at improving discipline and morality in the church environment. This article is a modest attempt by the author to have his word about the above-mentioned activities of A.S. Vyazigin. The article also critically analyses the reformist activities of P. Damiani, showing that his ideas did contribute to strengthening discipline and spiritual purity. However, his radical methods and extreme asceticism are very polemical and cause discussions among researchers.
