Досліджується період навчання М Грушевського в імператорському університеті св. Володимира (1886 - 1891 рр.). Показані перші кроки молодого вченого в науці, ставлення до нього викладачів, розглянуті фактори, які вплинули на формування світогляду майбутнього історика.
